Warning signs worth taking seriously

  • Betting more than you planned, or more than you can afford to lose.
  • Chasing losses with bigger stakes to get back to even.
  • Borrowing money, selling possessions or using bill money to gamble.
  • Hiding how much time or money you spend from people close to you.
  • Gambling to escape stress, boredom, anxiety or low mood.
  • Feeling restless or irritable when you try to cut down.

Recognising two or more of these is a reason to set a limit today rather than next month.

Protecting minors

Nobody under 18 may gamble, and the minimum age is 21 in states that set a higher limit. If a minor has access to your device, use parental control software such as Net Nanny or Qustodio, keep payment methods off shared devices and never save casino passwords in a shared browser profile.

  4. Take breaksSet a session reminder and step away from the screen when it fires.
  5. Do not gamble impairedAlcohol, exhaustion and stress all cost money.
